Tony Gonzalez Signs One Year Extension with Falcons

On Sunday January 1st the Atlanta Falcons announced that they had signed their future hall of fame tight end Tony Gonzalez to a one year contract extension.  Tony G isn’t playing like a 35 year old tight end nearing the end of his career by any means.  That must be part of the reason he will suit it up and put the pads on again next season.  He was signed to a one year $7 million dollar contract extension.  Gonzalez was recently named to his 12th Pro Bowl out of his 15 years in the league.  This is a jump in salary compared to him making $5.75 million this season which was the final year of five year contract he had signed with the Kansas City Chiefs prior to being traded to the Falcons right around the time of the draft in 2009.

Gonzalez is a very special player and is such an asset in so many ways on the field.  He is second on the NFL’s all-time reception list with 1,149.  I hope Tony Gonzalez plays a couple more seasons under the off-white roof of the Georgia Dome!
